tour dates. finally.

Muse plays the State Theatre July 28.

The State Theater? They’ve sold out The Shelter (which was bumped up to St. Andrews cuz 89X exploited it) and then Clutch Cargos, but I don’t know…maybe I’m so out of touch I don’t know what the kids are listening to these days. Tickets on sale next Saturday.

reminds me of babysitting

Why does it shoot like that? Why?

ADD

I heart Rescue Me. Denis Leary hearts Greg Dulli. You heart the Rescue Me soundtrack. It’s a circle jerk on fire.

I don’t talk about television much because, quite frankly, it blows. I’ve been giving Big Love a chance (we’ll see how the finale goes next week), been waiting for The Sopranos to end for two years now but it…keeps…dragging…on. Then there’s Deadwood and Entourage — both start up again June 11. As for my non-HBO viewing, I used to watch Arrested Development, but since it was too clever for 90% of the population, it was canceled and I used to watch Starved, but since that was too offensive for 90% of the population, it was canceled — which leaves It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Rescue Me.

I’m not sure where the fuck this post was going, and why it sounds like a goddamn MySpace profile, but here — watch this (worth the load time). Fuck the load time, just go here and click “Best Of Sunny Funnies”. And yes, I do have drugs that help keep me focused, but they make me a much less interesting person.

Read my weekly post at Got Detroit. Its awesomeness is slightly reduced by their server issues, but it’s still the best thing you’ve read all day.

I guess it’s The Aliens Day or something, people keep sending me stuff. Like usual, my readers would rather e-mail me than actually use the comments function, but whatever…

in toast to you, detroit

As promised, here’s Pearl Jam’s cover of MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams.” The intro is included where the band huddled together and tried to figure out how to play it, while Ed finished off his second bottle of wine. Many things were smashed at the end of this song — mic stands, a megaphone, Ed, etc. By this point in the show, the “get off the fucking stage already” house lights were on — and the band still churned out two more songs after this.

For my “too indie for Pearl Jam” audience, here’s a track from the guys who used to be Beta Band, or some of the guys who used to be in Beta Band, or the actual original Beta Band. My Beta Band fact guy is “busy,” whatever that means. Anyway, they’re calling themselves Aliens. Not themselves, but the band. The band is called Aliens. I quit.

UPDATE: My Beta Band fact guy is done administrating (read drinking coffee and wearing a tie). He sent me this thorough-but-confusing-as-hell family tree:

The Pigeons- The original name of The Beta Band. Nothing to my knowledge has ever been recorded under this name.
The Beta Band- Steve Mason and Gordon Anderson started the band. Added Robin Jones and John MacLean. Before recording their first album, Anderson became ill and quit the band. Mason then added Richard Greentree to complete the lineup. The band broke up in 2004.
The Lone Pigeon- After recovering, Anderson started his own project under this name while The Beta Band was still together.
King Biscuit Time- Mason’s side project during the end run of The Beta Band. Now his solo project. His first LP gets released this year, called “Black Gold.”
The Aliens- After The Beta Band’s breakup, Anderson rejoined with Jones and MacLean to form this band. Their first EP was released this year, entitled “Alienoid Starmonica.”

I guess the only question is, whatever happened to Richard Greentree?
