This is cool, but I’m curious if anyone reading this site normally buys RIAA albums? How many of you actually buy albums, and do you even check to see if they are RIAA material? Something tells me the only people news of this boycott is going to reach are those of us who already avoid giving cash to the RIAA. The real goal is educating the mouth-breathers who buy Carrie Underwood albums from Wal-Mart – but they aint gots no innernet.
To help promote awareness, from now on I’ll be labeling all of the “Must Steal” albums as RIAA if they are, in fact, RIAA releases. This means under no circumstances are you to pay actual money for Idlewild, Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem or The Good, The Bad, And The Queen music this year. Like the article says, buy a concert ticket or a t-shirt if you want to support these bands — they’ll actually see some of that money instead of it going toward lawsuits against four year-olds. To plagiarize a comment from that link, “Vote with your dollar. It’s the only political power you actually have.”

I tend to buy what I like, but it seems that fewer and fewer bands I like are on the major labels anymore. Out of the 45 or so CDs I’ve bought this year, 6 were from RIAA-affiliated labels (one was used, though). Really, I’m pretty happy about that. Looking at the upcoming releases for March, the only RIAA album that I was definitely getting was the new Stooges album, and I can wait a bit for that one. The new Kaiser Chiefs became a ‘maybe’ once I started hearing mixed reviews.
Also just found out that Ken Andrews has a new album due on the 12th. Can’t freakin’ wait. Of course he’s not hitting Detroit on the tour, not that I expected him to.
While I was typing this I saw a commercial for a new Barbie doll that comes with a dog that shits.
Seriously.
You want the Stooges album? Just ask.
The new Kaisers is kind of shit. Maybe I need to listen to it more, but I’m pretty sure I heard shit. Maybe it came out of Barbie’s dog.
Heh. Thanks. I’ll take you up on that. Still, I’ll want to get the physical CD at some point. I’m sure I’ll be able to find it used or get it at the show, though.
What I’ve heard of the new KC album isn’t really shit so much as it’s boring and uninspired.
Oh yeah. You probably know about it, but if not is a pretty cool resource. Release dates, tour dates and broadcast appearances for all sorts of bands/labels. Hell, even the new Mason Proper CD is listed in their upcoming releases! Handy site.
I know before I buy a cd ( which i still do all the time, fuck iTunes )I always check to make sure it’s not RIAA. This is why I didn’t buy the new Hold Steady album.
Okay, that weblink didn’t work right. It’s
http://www.newmusictipsheet.com
the new kaiser chiefs album replaced the new bloc party album as an album to be anticipated, but in actuality, is a total fucking let down. did that make sense? i’m really trying too hard.
Can we please touch on the subject of superteeth?
1. Reminds me of Nintendo.
2.Looks scary as hell.
3.$99 each service?
4. The services page on thier site looks something similar to upgrading to a “Delxue” at a carwash.
Link failed.
Where the hell do you find these advertisers?
Can’t you get a Suicide Girls or a Barely Legal banner?
How about Rice Fever?
I honestly have nothing to do with the ads.
I’m still buying Sound of Silver the day it comes out becuz a dream of that thing hitting the top 40 is a lot more realistic than hurting the RIAA.
Who the hell comes to a blog for ads anyway? Go away anonymous. Go to myspace for your ad fix.
Considering half of the shlubs on this blog [myself included] work in advertising I guess it’s not too far from anyone’s mind.
Eat taint Slobodan.

Maybe if you made a few non-myspace friends you wouldn’t be calling yourself ‘anonymous’ or searching the internet for popup ads with cleavage.
I don’t know. Cleavage is good.
Sometimes I refresh MySpace over and over until this chick shows up in a True.com ad
I love her, but I’m pretty sure she was built in Photoshop.
Yeah, I stopped looking at banner ads at about 10:30 this morning.
I heard it was unkuth to discuss it here.
We’re all very civilized socialites and there will be no room for jokes.
I’ve gotta get back to some super important work though, I also have to plan a new volleyball league.
I just can’t tear myself away from this cubic formula.
I’m trying to master 3rd degree polynomial equations.
Somtimes I call it,
Pubic Formula.
Nice!
Thanks.
