Tonight does not look easy. Freer, Carjack, Siddhartha, The Pizazz, Scarlett Oaks, The Decks, The Brothers Cortez — all overlapping and conflicting. And I think I want to see everyone playing at 12:45 — The Questions, The Go, The Ruiners, Blair and HiFi Handgrenades especially. These are decisions no man should have to make. This sucks. I hate Blowout. Back to last night…

The Chrome Spiders There's no website link because I think this is just Tom Potter (Bantam Rooster, Dirtbombs, Detroit City Council, Seger Liberation Army) deciding he wanted to come back to Detroit this weekend and do something. And he was given a free pass and a venue full of drunken fans craving his brand of guitar stylings, because Tom Potter does not disappoint.
Child Bite I'm almost positive this band is possessed by a group of demons. Demons who make really cool sounding music, but demons nonetheless. Seriously, look at those two pictures and tell me you're not even a little bit scared. He's actually on on his toes convulsing in that first one. Child Bite makes me want to break shit. Do yourself a favor and watch the two psychotic videos they have here. Demons, every one of them.
Nomo Horns and horns and horns. These guys were pretty fucking sweet and I'd really like to catch one of their full shows sometime. To be honest, we only lasted two or three songs before our alcohol-enhanced ADD forced us to move on. Plus, a bunch of hippies showed up and started dancing so, you know…
Novada This was just a random find. We were looking for anything at this point, trying to squeeze one last band in before His Name Is Alive. I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to like these guys, but their performance was one of the most memorable of the night. It looked like they were only performing to their girlfriends and few locals who had passed out at the bar, but we stood there grinning ear to ear as the singer swung microphones and threw mic stands while the band, at one point, broke into AC/DC's "Thunderstruck". When he finished the last song, the singer walked off the stage and out the front door, leaving the band to wrap things up. This is what The Blowout is all about — getting blown away by a band you never knew existed.
His Name Is Alive When we walked in, Dion Fischer (The Go, Tranzistors) was going ape-shit in a wolf costume — first on stage, then through the crowd. I have no idea what the fuck was going on, but if someone could enlighten me and tell me where I can see more of this, I'd appreciate it. His Name Is Alive was amazing. That vocalist has to have one of the most perfect voices I've ever heard. We didn't stay to the very end because someone mentioned pierogi and we had a new mission. We never did find any and had to settle for Fish Nibblers from White Castle. Anyone know a good 24-hour joint in Hamtramck that serves pierogi?
