Sometimes I post a bunch of tracks I like so you can tell me that music hasn’t been any good since the 70s and that if I want to like these newfangled queer musics, I should move to “one ah dem fanciful cities dat still got jobs and cultures and da waterin’ hole fer genes hadn’t done run dry”. This is going to be one of those times.
I have tried, in the past, to keep a running list of SHIT I DIG on this (and on my previous) site. Last year, I got bored a few months in and stopped. This year I might try harder. If you’re ever looking for something new that sounds new that does not sound like classic rock or nineties pop, maybe click on that BEST OF ‘10 in the banner image for some torrenting suggestions. Since we’re almost done with February and I haven’t really mentioned much, I’m going to stick mostly to tracks from the releases I just put up. I’m sure you’re already familiar with some, but please bear with me while I get the rest of the class up to speed.
Best Coast - “Something In The Way”
Lettercamp - “Call it Off”
Beach House - “Walk In The Park”
Future Islands - “Tin Man”
Small Black - “Despicable Dogs” (Washed Out remix)
The Juliets - “This Just In”
Four Tet - “Angel Echoes”
jj - “Into The Light”
High Places - “The Longest Shadows”
Titus Andronicus - “A More Perfect Union”
(Yes I do realize this is a seven-minute song by a guy who can’t sing, from a Civil War naval battle concept album…and that I’m the only one who likes it.)
Best Coast, Beach House and Titus Andronicus (edit: and Small Black) all have upcoming dates in Michigan, in case you like them. Lettercamp and The Juliets will be playing Blowout, in case you like them. The rest, I guess, you’ll just have to be MySpace friends with.

thank you
Bully for you, sir. Nice dig. But seeing what you posted I have to surmise that you don’t even like music anymore. In fact, you are left with the sad job of collating the musical bits and bobs that pass through your transom. Why you do it is anybody’s guess. Good luck with the future.
Small Black is coming to town too in April with Washed Out and Pictureplane. I for one can’t wait for that show.
yeah, chris, i completely agree, i am really looking forward to that washed out/ small black/ pictureplane show. i hear the dudes from small back are supposed to be playing as washed out’s backing band, so that should be rad. i’m also really looking forward to beach house in the pike room in april. there is a lot of good shit coming up!
jasperiffic- that lettercamp song is great. i always love hearing good detroit music. and i love the juliets but that track won’t work after i download it for some reason.
The Juliets song is an m4a. It might download as an mp3 so try changing the file extension back to m4a once you’ve downloaded it.
What a surprise that that kodak’s kid agreed about everything.
that kodak’s kid is like 14 and still gets excited about music. let’s see how fast we can ruin that for him. be angry and bitter like the rest of us, adam. read more blogs! never leave detroit! ONE OF US! ONE OF US! GOOBLE GOBBLE! GOOBLE GOBBLE!
The Titus Andronicus song/album would be better if it was about the War of 1812 (in which Detroit went out of its way to proactively surrender to the British), but still, not bad. Can’t wait to see them in April.
don’t worry, i’m incredibly bitter for being 12 years old. that’s why i read this blog, obviously. let me demonstrate: i sincerely hate that titus andronicus song and i saw them open for los campesinos! one time and they have some good musicians but i just don’t care for their music. also, every band in detroit sucks complete cock hold for maybe four.
i’m planning on jasper and jrc adopting me so we can be one big bitter music snob family.
Rumor has it Punk Fitness will be performing to this playlist at Blowout!
is that forbidden zone? god what an awful experience that was.

I’m fine with the liking of any of these bands. I dig the Juliets and most of the others don’t bother me to hear. But my question for the day is:
What is the appropriate response to someone telling you they’re favorite bands are 30 seconds to mars, brand new, and avenged sevenfold? Is it to laugh hysterically? Feel bad for them that their ears never grew up, and they still like being force fed? Immediately walk away and burn the clothes you were wearing at this occasion?
I think you can only be a music snob if you actually like good music.
I don’t think anyone (including Jasper) will give a shit about most of these bands in about 6 months.
Here’s a link to download the Juliets song as an mp3: https://www.yousendit.com/download/RmNDT20zQVNIcWRFQlE9PQ
Yeaah cooool these are the same bands pitchfork told me to like a few weeks ago. We’re all so
cool.
…i dunno guys, alan moulder is doing the new 30 seconds to mars record. the stylist on that record is going to be great
For someone with a tight blog, that JR dude needs to learn how to post a link. I mean, his blog is 100% tight as fuck; I love his blog totally. But, shit, I had to cut and copy and paste about 3 times in order to get that link to work to that hot picture of dudes with bananas, which was awesomely ironic and in no way am I sick of looking at this website or the shit that people post on it. Fucking retards.
